What Are UV Protection Lenses?
UV Protection describes a lens's ability to block ultraviolet (UV) radiation, the invisible part of sunlight, from passing through to your eyes. It is a property of the lens material or coating, so it does not depend on how dark or tinted the lens looks. A clear lens can offer UV protection, and a dark lens may not.
Products are often labelled "UV-400", which refers to blocking UV wavelengths up to 400 nanometres. UV is present even on cloudy days, and eye care professionals generally recommend UV protection for time spent outdoors. Check the details of each lens below, and note that the lens only protects the area it covers.

How It Works
UV protection is built into the lens material or added as a coating, and works whether or not the lens is tinted.
Sunlight contains UV
UV radiation is invisible and is present outdoors, even when it is cloudy.
Lens blocks UV
The lens material or coating stops UV passing through.
Less UV reaches your eyes
UV is blocked through the lens, within the area the lens covers.
